Off to Myanmar

It has been 4 years since my last visit to Yangon. This time I am showing my Gem dealer friend around Yangon as he is interested in buying some Rubies and Sapphires.

View from the window of my Jetstar flight to Myanmar. The weather was great and you could see the east coast of Malaysia
Because it was a code share flight between Jetstar and Myanmar Airways they served us meals
Myanmar is one and a half hours behind Singapore time

We checked into Asia Plaza Hotel. At only US$35 per night it was cheap. We were on the Nine floor and had a great view of Yangon
We headed straight to Scott market to visit the Gemstone market

Mohamed , bargaining with a shopkeeper for a good price
Sapphires for sale
Jade boulders for sale
Ruby rough are attached to the end of sticks before there are polished

The gems are now being polished

We headed to Shwedagon Pagoda after dinner. This Pagoda is the mother of all Pagodas in Myanmar. The Pagoda is covered in gold and the tip of the spire is loaded with rubies and sapphires
